Humanitarian Support Foundation Atlanta raised and donated $500.00 while employee, Taylor Littlefield rappel down the side of Buckhead Tower in support of LIVESTRONG programs and services.

LIVESTRONG Foundation fights to improve the lives of people around the world affected with cancer. LIVESTRONG connect people and communities with the services they need, and call for state, national and world leaders to help fight cancer. LIVESTRONG strive to be the best possible stewards of the financial commitments that donors and partners make to improve the lives of people affected with cancer today.

AGL Atlanta teamed up with various local businesses in the Logistics Industry and quickly put together supplies for Louisiana flood victims. “We were given the opportunity to help out. The Humanitarian Support Foundation always tries to be a good neighbor and give aid whenever possible” says Mike Shea. Mike coordinated and delivered boxes of baby supplies to a local warehouse for loading into a 53-foot trailer. Over 30,000.00 pounds of supplies were collected and trucked to Louisiana.

Heavy rains in August caused massive flooding in Louisiana, and is considered the worst natural disaster in the U.S. since superstorm Sandy struck the East Coast in 2012. Thousands lost their homes and businesses. One parish reportedly had 31 inches of rain in just 15 hours. Louisiana’s governor estimated the floods have caused more than $8.7 billion in damage.

The Humanitarian Support Foundation’s employees are committed and involved in volunteering, donations and working with charities beyond state borders.

Humanitarian Support Foundation Atlanta employees 2nd year in a row cupcake bake sale fundraiser for the American Heart Association in the lobby of the building. This year, employees baked 380 cupcakes for the fundraiser. (140 more than last year – due to popular demand). Employees donated cookware supplies, cake mix, frosting and volunteered their time covering the cupcake table and passed out AHA awareness pamphlets and bags for the event.

Again, cupcakes sold out and all proceeds will be donated to American Heart Association to raise awareness for heart disease, stroke research and education.

The Humanitarian Support Foundation Atlanta is recognized as a Gold Achievement Fit and Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association.

Employees volunteer hours are turned into earned dollars through the “Matching Action with Dollars” plan. At the end of the year, employees earned dollars are to a 501-C3 of their choice.

The Humanitarian Support Foundation VA office visited the Salvation Army on March 9, 2016 to help prepare a meal for those most in need in the Martinsville area. The Salvation Army hosts a lunch meal every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday weekly open to the community. This community meal serves all people but is especially beneficial for homeless and those struggling to ensure there food needs are meet.

The Humanitarian Support Foundation VA office has committed to be a part of this meal program each month by helping to prepare and serve food each second Wednesday of the month. Employees go over and start preparing food and a second shift of Humanitarian Support Foundation employee’s helps to serve meals to those who attend the meal. This month employees served approximately 60 + guests with fried pork chops, mashed potatoes, salads, and chocolate cake. Employees look forward to helping with this vital program in the future.

On October 23 and 24^th the Virginia Museum of Natural History held their annual Reptile Day Exhibit. This event helps teach kids about reptiles including various types of snakes, turtles, lizards, frogs, and even an alligator. Cold Earth Encounters staff and animals were on hand during this two day special. On Friday October 23^rd the museum was open to local schools to allow students the chance to see and hold animals. Kids were broken up into small groups and taken into different portions of the exhibit. The Humanitarian Support Foundation VA office helped on October 23 during the classroom visits of several local schools. Humanitarian Support Foundation employees helped to lead kids through the exhibit and even got to hold a few animals. The event continues on October 24, 2015 opening to the public attracting thousands of visitors to the museum including out of state enthusiasts that wanted to check out the cool animals on hand. The Humanitarian Support Foundation looks forward to helping with future events through the Virginia Museum of Natural History.

Each year Grace Networks hosts an annual pumpkin patch in city of Martinsville. There are a variety of pumpkins and gourds available to purchase by the community but more importantly with each purchase Grace Network receives a portion of the purchase cost to help local families in need. Grace Network supports the community in a couple of different ways. One of the major things they do is assist people with rent and utilities bills. This could be in the form of a higher than normal power bill to an unexpected medical cost that prevented someone from being able to pay their rent. Last year over $200,000 went to help people in the Martinsville and Henry County community in the rental and utility assistance program alone. They also support people in our area by providing food as needed from their food pantry. This food pantry is very different than most as they actually allow people in need to come into the pantry and select items they know will be used. This helps to prevent waist and empowers people for the future. In 2015 over $97,000 of food was given to those most in need in our community. The pumpkin patch sales help to support these vital program and the Martinsville VA office has worked with Grace Network in the past on this event and again helped to sale pumpkins at the pumpkin patch on October 22 and 30. The Humanitarian Support Foundation VA offices looks forward to continue to help Grace Network in the near future.

The Humanitarian Support Foundation VA office hosted the Danville Regional Medical Center Blood Drive on November 19, 2015. Over 15 pints of blood were collected during this event, and it is estimated that with each donation approximately 3 lives are saved. As a thank you to all those who donated they were given a gift of a T-Shirt or umbrella of their choosing.
