Humanitarian Support Foundation Assists C2C in Opening Latest Clinic in Haiti

american global logistics chad rosenberg

Containers 2 Clinics (C2C) strives to provide medical care for people in the developing world in a unique way — by re-purposing shipping containers as clinics. After working with members of target communities to fully understand their health care needs, the organization uses philanthropic funding to manufacture, ship, and place the clinic, as well as to cover start-up costs and revenue shortfalls until the clinic begins to cover its annual operating costs. Their latest clinic officially opened in August in Camp Coq, Haiti, thanks in part to Humanitarian Support Foundation which covered the freight costs and customs clearance services for the clinic.

We thank our partners at C2C for the opportunity to support their distinctive approach to a worthy cause. We look forward to our next project together.

Humanitarian Support Foundation Supports Global Soap Project

Global SoapThe Global Soap Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to improve global health.  The leading causes of death for children globally are hygiene-related illnesses, and hand washing with soap is the single most effective way to prevent these illnesses. Hotels in the United States alone discard an estimated 2.6 million bars of partially-used or unused soap on a daily basis. The Global Soap Project works to collect partially-used and discarded soap from hotels, recycle it into new bars, and distribute the new soap through global health programs to people in need around the world.

In March 2013, Humanitarian Support Foundation had the pleasure of assisting this organization by shipping a full container of new soap to Haiti. More than 90,000 bars of soap were distributed in schools, accompanied by comprehensive hand washing and hygiene education.

In April 2013, Humanitarian Support Foundation shipped another container of new soap to Sierra Leone to assist with the prevention of a cholera outbreak. The soap was distributed by hospitals to children and families living in and around Freetown. These families, who live in extreme poverty, do not have access to soap because it is either not available or unaffordable.

This letter is to acknowledge your generous sponsorship of…our 2013 Back2School event. We were so appreciative of people and businesses who joined with the congregation of Mercy Crossing to make the event such a great success. On Saturday, August 3, we were able to impact the lives of 383 children by giving them a new pair of shoes and socks, a book bag with school supplies, an opportunity to receive some new and gently used clothing, and the choice as to whether or not to have their hair cut…We were blessed as a church to be a part of such a great community outreach and are so thankful for your help in making it happen.

Humanitarian Support Foundation Wellness Lunch & Learn: Conflict Resolution, July 9

conflict

On July 9, the Humanitarian Support Foundation Atlanta team welcomed MS. Consultant and author Diara Kendrich for a session on Conflict Resolution, as part of the company’s ongoing Wellness Lunch & Learn series. Ms. Kendrich, the author of Who Farted in the Boardroom?!: How to Outscore Conflict in the Workplace, focused on the importance of successful conflict resolution for winning businesses. She offered specific examples of how facing conflict head-on can help prevent negative workplace side effects such as discomfort, disloyalty, misunderstanding, tension, indifference, decreased communication, increased resistance to change, employee dissatisfaction, and in the worst cases, work sabotage.

During the session, Humanitarian Support Foundation employees role played through three (3) viewpoints of conflict: traditional, human relations, and interactions. Through this process, the entire team was able to better understand the impact that each type of conflict could have on individuals in the workplace. Ms. Kendrich also discussed strategies for following a conflict resolution model or plan, including: defining the problem, brainstorming possible solutions, evaluating solutions from the perspective of both parties, mutually agreeing on the most acceptable solution, deciding who will do what by when, implementing and evaluating the solution, and acting on findings. By agreeing to focus on the problem instead of the individuals involved, accept accountability, and listen wisely, attendees came away feeling better equipped to deal with workplace conflict in the future.

Humanitarian Support Foundation Wellness Lunch & Learn: CPR Training, June 25

agl

On June 25, the Humanitarian Support Foundation Atlanta team received training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as part of the company’s ongoing Wellness Lunch & Learn series. The session was led by an instructor affiliated with Emergency Response to Terrorism: Self-Study (ERTSS), an authorized training center for the American Heart Association (AHA). During the session, our instructor demonstrated the proper way to administer CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED). He also reviewed the action required to help a choking victim.

CPR has been proven to improve survival rates for those experiencing cardiac arrest, as well as those who choke or stop breathing. Through training, Humanitarian Support Foundation employees learned how and when to give CPR to infants, children and adults. Humanitarian Support Foundation is proud to continue educating our employees on topics that improve overall the wellness of our team members and our community.
